eoin..have you ever heard of the Mukhabarat..Assads secret police? They are masters of infiltration of opposition and cultivators of informants through incentives..like threatening family members and torture. Do you understand the meaning of the term “police state” where the states needs outweigh all else and tge ends justify the means…put your cynicism aside and view this crime against humanity objectively without letting biased anti western views cloud your vision..Maries last report describing a child dying from.shrapnel and this lady was independant of any politics..she was in.no.doubt as to the aggressor…time the world isnt!

Terry, if that is true – that they were targeted – it is just the sort of thing that makes western involvement more likely. You have to question the motivation of the people do who targeted them! maybe someone who wants the west to arm and provide air support to the FSA?

Newsnight claimed that both where targeted and this intelligence was picked up by lebanonesse sources so it wasnt an accident the Syrian army new that house was used by western media – makes it even more terrible

God Bless them both. I didn’t know Marie, but I did work alongside Remi a couple of times last year, in Cairo and Tripoli. He stood out as a person and a photographer. At only 28, he is far too young to be taken from us and so many years of brilliant photography ahead of him. He wasn’t a chancer, he studied all projects and was mad into his cameras. Remi was murdered by the people in Syria who want to hide the truth. It’s the job of photographers to uncover the truth. It’s the purest form of Journalism. May they both be somewhere far happier tonight!

On newsnight BBC they are now discussing arming the free Syrian army and setting up aid corridors it’s amazing how things can move on when 2 western Europeans get killed – it’s about time though
